SoGEA

A wide range of connectivity solutions, enabling your business to thrive.

The UK’s traditional telephone network has now been retired, with services fully transitioning to a modern, digital infrastructure. The old Wholesale Line Rental (WLR) network, which supported analogue phone lines and ADSL broadband, is no longer available for new services and is being phased out entirely.

This means businesses can no longer rely on legacy phone lines to deliver connectivity. Instead, broadband and voice services now run over IP-based networks, designed to be faster, more reliable, and future-ready.

SoGEA (Single Order Generic Ethernet Access) is one of the key solutions enabling this transition. It delivers fibre broadband without the need for a traditional phone line, using the existing fibre and copper network infrastructure already available to over 90% of UK premises.

By moving to SoGEA, businesses can simplify their setup, reduce dependency on outdated technology, and ensure they’re aligned with the UK’s fully digital network.

SoGEA stands for Single Order Generic Ethernet Access and is a broadband variant that doesn’t run over a phone line; instead, SoGEA is a dedicated line that delivers a broadband connection.

SoGEA 80:20 offers speeds of “up to 80Mbps” downstream and “up to 20Mbps” upstream.

The SoGEA products use the same technology as FTTC to provide connectivity without the line rental component, removing the need for two separate products and increasing cost efficiency.

SoGEA delivers the same performance and data rates as FTTC broadband. It uses the same infrastructure and has the same geographic availability, future proofing connectivity as the UK moves to an all-IP network.
